Tracing Memories to partycypacyjny projekt wystawienniczy autorstwa Jasmin Schaitl, którego poszczególne elementy zostały opracowane we współpracy z uczestnikami warsztatów Tangible Practices.

Wystawa ta odkrywa złożoność i potencjał zmysłu dotyku w kontekście pamięci, ukazując istoty ludzkie jako zindywidualizowane naczynia wspomnień.
Dzięki pewnej charakterystycznej zdolności, zwaną mentalną podróżą w czasie (termin ukuty przez Endela Tulvinga) możemy poruszać się po krajobrazach naszej przeszłości i wyobrażonej przyszłości.

Świadomie stosując tę umiejętność, możemy kształtować teraźniejsze, przeszłe i przyszłe doświadczenia w bardziej namacalny sposób.

Wystawa angażuje odwiedzających do aktywowania zmysłu dotyku a jednocześnie do ponownego przeżywania / odzyskiwania radosnych wspomnień z przeszłości. Zwiedzający otrzymują plastyczny materiał, który mogą dowolnie przekształcać, przywołując w ciszy swoje wspomnienia. Jego giętkość sprawia, że

efemeryczny charakter wspomnień przemienia się w zyczną substancję, która zostaje w przestrzeni wystawy. Proces ten wspiera odwiedzających w odkrywaniu transformacyjnej mocy przeszłości względem teraźniejszości, uwypuklając rolę indywidualnej sprawczości. Zachęca ich również, by stali się aktywnymi twórcami swoich doświadczeń, dostrzegając wpływ radosnych wydarzeń z przeszłości na swój obecny stan umysłu.

Tracing Memories jest rozwinięciem trwającego projektu Schaitl "reciprocity", który jest tu częściowo prezentowany.
W jego skład wchodzą prace wystawione w praskiej Galerie Altán Klamovka w 2021 roku - pierwszej wystawie interaktywnej, na której odwiedzający zostali zaproszeni do zmaterializowania swoich wspomnień w plastyczny materiał. Podobnie jak w Tracing Memories, odwiedzający mogli umieścić swoje zmaterializowane wspomnienia na istniejącej rzeźbie drucianej wiszącej w przestrzeni. Aby zarchiwizować wystawę, artystka ostrożnie przeniosła wspomnienia do oddzielnej przestrzeni, odwzorowała cień rzeźby, następnie skompresowała całość w kształt sześcianu. Dokument tej transformacji jest prezentowany w formie wideo.

Nowa praca, wykonana z uczestnikami warsztatu Tangible Practices, powstała podczas weekendu poprzedzającego wernisaż. Efekt tego kolektywnego działania ma charakter site-specific i odzwierciedla zmaterializowane wspomnienia uczestników warsztatu.

Jasmin Schaitl jest artystką wizualną, performerką, wykładowczynią i członkinią grupy roboczej Angewandte Performance Laboratory na Uniwersytecie Sztuk Stosowanych w Wiedniu. W swoich badaniach artystycznych opracowuje interaktywne koncepty, które łączą w sobie różnorodne praktyki kontemplacyjne, angażują zmysł dotyku oraz umożliwiają ponowne przeżycie wspomnień. Jasmin jest doktorantką w Wyższej Szkole Sztuki i Projektowania im. Eugeniusza Gepperta we Wrocławiu.

"Tracing Memories" is a participatory exhibition project by Jasmin Schaitl, with elements developed in collaboration with the participants from the "Tangible Practices" workshop. This exhibition lets us explore the complexities and potentialities of the sense of touch in connection with memory, reecting on human beings as individual vessels of recollections. With a distinctive and remarkable ability, referred to as mental-time-travel (coined by Endel Tulving), it encapsulates the human skill of navigating through the landscapes of the past and potential futures. When one consciously applies this skill, the effect of shaping present, past, and future experiences becomes more tangible. The exhibition engages visitors to activate their sense of touch and, simultaneously, relive and retrieve a past joyful memory of themselves. Visitors are provided with a malleable material that they can transform while remembering their memory in silence. This pliable material turns an ephemeral memory into a physical substance that can remain in the exhibition space. This process supports visitors in exploring the transformative power of the past on the present and their individual agency. It invites visitors to become active creators of their experience, perceiving the impact of joyful past experiences on their present state of mind. "Tracing Memories" is a further development of Schaitl's ongoing project "reciprocity" partially exhibited here. "reciprocity" consists of works displayed at Galerie Altán Klamovka in Prague in 2021, the rst participatory exhibition where visitors were invited to materialize their memories into malleable material. As in "Tracing Memories", visitors could place their materialized memories on an existing site-specic wire sculpture hanging in the space. To archive the exhibition, the artist carefully transferred the memories onto a separate surface to highlight them. She then drew the shadow of the sculpture and later pressed the site-specic aluminum sculpture into an archival cube shape. A document of this transformation is presented in the form of a video. The new collaborative work with participants of the "Tangible Practices" workshop is developed during the weekend prior to the opening. As a collective, the workshop group creates a site-specic environment, consisting of their translated and materialized memories from the workshop.

Jasmin Schaitl is a visual artist, performer, lecturer and member of the Angewandte Performance Laboratory working group at the University of applied Arts Vienna. In her artistic research she develops participatory, performative settings that integrate approaches from contemplative practices, engage the sense of touch, and enable re-experiencing memories; in order to cultivate individual agency through facilitating formats for reection and contemplation. She is a PhD Candidate at the Eugenisz Geppert Academy of Art and Design Wroclaw, PL.
